Every auxiliary unit has an if-condition

Auxiliary equipment is selected by a conditional problem. If density is mixed, use a sink-float tank. If dirt is stuck, use friction. If film carries water, use squeezing.

None of these machines is bought by default. Each one belongs in the line only when your stream actually creates the problem it was built to solve.

Technical notes from this category

A note on the name first, because it matters for whether this page is useful to you. In the wider plastics industry, auxiliary equipment often means injection moulding ancillaries such as resin dryers, chillers and central feeding systems. That is not what this page is. These four machines are all washing-line equipment, and we say what we do not supply further down.

Buyers of auxiliary equipment are in a different position from buyers of complete lines. You already have a line. Something in it is not good enough, and you need to know which machine fixes it. So this page is organised by where the gap is in your process, not by which plastic you run.

These four machines are also available inside our complete washing lines, and three of them are on every line we build. Buying them individually makes sense when you are upgrading rather than starting, which is the more common situation.

01What Each Machine Solves, and When You Can Skip It

Auxiliary equipment is the easiest category to over-buy, because every machine sounds useful. The honest version includes the cases where you do not need one.

High-speed friction washer Solves: contamination that is bonded to the surface rather than sitting on it. Glue, paper fibre, label residue, fine dirt. Rotor diameter is what sets capacity here, not speed: all three models run the same 720 to 1,200 rpm and differ in rotor diameter of 350, 450 or 650 mm and power of 15 to 55 kW. Skip it if: your feedstock is clean factory scrap with no adhesive and no surface soil.
Sink-float separation tank Solves: contaminants that share a particle size with your material but not its density. PP and PE caps in PET, stone and metal fines, EPS. Tank length 5, 6, 8 or 11 metres in 3 mm stainless steel, with an optional vertical dewatering machine at 850 to 1,200 rpm on the outlet. Skip it if: your stream is genuinely single polymer and free of stone and metal, which in practice means industrial scrap rather than collected material.
Centrifugal dryer, spinner Solves: bulk water on rigid flake, mechanically, before you pay to evaporate it thermally. Four models from VTS-450 to WTS-850L, 5.5 kW up to 110 kW, ⌀450 to ⌀850 rotors, 300 to 2,000 kg/h on rigid scrap and 300 to 1,000 kg/h on soft film. Skip it if: you run a dry process with no washing at all. On any wet line, removing this is a false economy paid back in drying energy.
JG squeezer and densifier Solves: water trapped in film folds, which centrifugal drying cannot reach, and light film that will not feed a pelletizer. Five models JG250 to JG380, 75 to 250 kW, screws ⌀250 to ⌀380, 200 to 1,500 kg/h. It squeezes, heats and densifies in one pass. Skip it if: you only process rigid plastic. This machine exists for film, and on rigid flake a centrifugal dryer does the job more cheaply.

Two of these can often be added later without rebuilding the line, and two are much cheaper to install at the start. Tell us at the quotation stage which way you are leaning and we will leave the space and the electrical capacity for it.

02Why the Friction Washer Sizes by Rotor, Not by Speed

This one is worth a section because it is counter-intuitive and it comes up in almost every friction washer enquiry.

All three models run the same speed HSW350, HSW450 and HSW650 all operate at 720 to 1,200 rpm. Speed is set by what the washing action needs, and it does not change with machine size.
Capacity comes from rotor diameter What differs across the range is rotor diameter, 350, 450 or 650 mm, and motor power, 15/22, 30/37 or 45/55 kW. A larger rotor moves more material per revolution at the same surface speed.
Why they are installed on a slope The machines mount at 20 to 30 degrees with continuous water spray from the top. Material climbs the incline while being scrubbed, which gives a longer residence time than a horizontal machine of the same length.
Bearings kept out of the water The bearing housings are fully isolated from the water path. On a machine running wet at over 1,000 rpm for two shifts a day, that detail is what decides service life.

03What We Do Not Supply

Because the term auxiliary equipment is used more broadly in the plastics industry, people arrive on this page looking for machines we do not build. Rather than let you find that out three emails in, here is the list and what to do instead.

Resin dryers for moulding Desiccant and hopper dryers that dry virgin or recycled resin before injection moulding are a different product family with different suppliers. Our dewatering equipment removes wash water from flake; it does not condition resin to a moulding specification.
Central feeding systems Plant-wide vacuum conveying and central material handling for a moulding shop is not something we build. Specialist suppliers do it better and support it locally, which matters for a system that touches every machine you own.
Chillers and cooling towers Our pelletizing lines need cooling water and we specify the requirement, but the chiller itself is normally sourced locally. Shipping a chiller across the world when an equivalent unit is available in your city rarely makes sense.
Optical and X-ray sorters Separating PVC from PET, or sorting by colour, needs optical or X-ray sorting equipment. We will tell you when your project needs it, and we do not pretend a washing line can do it instead.

04What Drives the Cost of Auxiliary Equipment

Single machines are easier to quote than complete lines, and the variables are fewer. These are the ones that move the number.

Size and installed power Directly comparable within each family. Friction washers run 15 to 55 kW, centrifugal dryers 5.5 to 110 kW, and JG squeezers 75 to 250 kW. Power is both a purchase and an operating figure.
Stainless steel content Our sink-float tanks are built in 3 mm stainless steel. Carbon steel is cheaper and, in constant contact with warm water and detergent, does not last. On a tank welded into a line, replacing it later is a major job.
Tank length Sink-float tanks come in 5, 6, 8 and 11 metre lengths. Longer means more separation time and more floor space, and the choice follows your capacity and how difficult the separation is.
Optional dewatering A vertical dewatering machine at 850 to 1,200 rpm can be fitted on the tank outlet. It is worth it where the next stage is sensitive to carried-over water.
Integration Conveyors, interlocks and control integration into an existing line. Usually modest in cost and easy to underestimate in engineering time, especially when the existing line came from another supplier.

One item we still need from our engineering department for publication is the thumb wheel motor power on the sink-float tank. We would rather leave a gap here than publish a figure we have not confirmed.

What moves the price inside this category

Two quotations for the same machine name can differ by a large margin. In this category the difference almost always comes from these three lines.

What is the difference between a friction washer and an ordinary washing tank?

The mechanism. A washing tank soaks and moves material through water; a friction washer at 720 to 1,200 rpm makes the flakes scrub against each other. Soaking removes what is loose, friction removes what is stuck on. That is why lines handling glue, labels or fine dirt carry both, sometimes with a friction washer before and after density separation.

What can a sink-float tank actually separate?

Anything that differs from your material in density. PP, PE and EPS float; PET, metal and stone sink. That covers caps in a PET stream, stones and metal fines from collected material, and foam. What it cannot do is separate polymers of similar density, PVC from PET being the important case, which needs optical or X-ray sorting instead.

What moisture level do you get after dewatering?

Centrifugal dewatering removes the bulk of the water mechanically, and hot-air drying afterwards takes rigid flake below 1 percent. Film is different: water sits in the folds where a centrifugal dryer cannot reach it, which is why film lines use a JG squeezer rather than relying on a spinner alone.

Do I need both a squeezer and a centrifugal dryer?

Depends entirely on the material. On rigid flake a centrifugal dryer plus hot-air drying is enough and a squeezer adds little. On film the squeezer is the machine that matters, because it reaches water a spinner cannot and it densifies the material so the pelletizer can feed it. Lines running both rigid and film often carry both.

Can these machines be added to an existing line later?

Often yes, and that is why we sell them individually. What limits it is space at the right point in the process and spare electrical capacity. If you think you may add a stage later, say so at the quotation stage and we will leave the room and the power for it, which is far cheaper than making space afterwards.

Do you sell single machines, or only complete lines?

Both. All four of these are sold individually, including into lines built by other suppliers. We will ask more questions in that case, because the machine has to match your existing capacity and process rather than an ideal one, and getting that wrong just moves the bottleneck.

Do you supply resin dryers for injection moulding?

No. Desiccant and hopper dryers that condition resin for moulding are a different product family, and specialist suppliers do them better with local support. Our dewatering equipment removes wash water from recycled flake, which is a different job. We are happy to specify the interface so equipment you buy elsewhere fits our line.

Why are friction washers installed on a slope?

Because material has to climb. At 20 to 30 degrees with water spraying continuously from the top, flake is scrubbed against itself all the way up the incline, which gives a much longer effective residence time than a horizontal machine of the same length. The bearing housings are isolated from the water path, which is what keeps a wet machine at over 1,000 rpm serviceable.

What counts as auxiliary equipment in a recycling line?

In plastic recycling, auxiliary equipment means the support stations between the main machines: sink-float tanks, friction washers, squeezers, centrifugal dryers, screw conveyors and storage silos. Note that the term means something different in injection moulding, where it usually refers to resin dryers, chillers and material loaders. These pages cover the recycling sense.

Which auxiliary machines are optional and which are not?

Dewatering is effectively mandatory once material has been washed, because nothing downstream tolerates free water. Everything else is conditional. A sink-float tank earns its place only when densities genuinely differ, a friction washer only when dirt is stuck rather than loose, and a squeezer mainly when film would otherwise carry water into drying. If your stream does not create the problem, the machine is cost without return.

Do auxiliary machines share the same control cabinet?

On a complete line supplied by us, yes: the stations run from one central cabinet with interlocks, so a stoppage downstream stops the feed upstream instead of flooding it. Single machines added to an existing line are normally supplied with their own local starter, and integrating them into your existing control system is separate engineering work that should be listed in the quotation rather than assumed.
